Mediation

Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) that is often successful in family law matters.  It is an alternative to the traditional approach of litigation. Rather than the parties arguing their respective positions before a judge, magistrate, or domestic relations commissioner, the parties work with a neutral third party specially trained as a mediator.  The mediator facilitates the discussion between the parties and their attorneys (if they choose to have attorneys present). The mediator identifies the issues, assists the clients with generating options for resolution, and ultimately helps them reach an agreement.  Mediation allows the clients in a family law matter to retain control of their situation rather than put major decisions regarding their finances and children in the hands of a judge, magistrate, or domestic relations commissioner who does not personally know the parties.  Overmann Family Law offers mediation services with their trained mediators.
